I am using an iPad 2, running iOS 6.01. So here's the problem
I want to download apps from the App Store, however whenever I try to do that, the app is shown as installing but the App Store doesn't ask me for my password hence the app does not get downloaded!!

There seem to be some really weird things going on with the App Store for the past few days. Try downloading something in iTunes first and then see if you can download in the App Store.
